About the Authors

Jake Wren

Hi, I’m Jake, a.k.a. jaturwur (he/him). I’m a chronic worldbuilder, conlanger, and occasional writer based in lovely, leafy Surrey, UK. I studied Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge, with a particular interest in Germanic philology and textual criticism. I mostly write queer fantasy with a focus on genealogy and kinship, government and politics, and the inevitable passing of the ages, all with a smattering of silly magical nonsense.

My key inspirations—those that have irreversibly warped my psyche—include all sorts of myths and legends from around the world; the rather more mundane narratives of the Icelandic family sagas; video game series such as Fire Emblem, The Legend of Zelda, and The Sims; and, of course, him. Whenever I’m not hunched over a spreadsheet or family tree or somesuch, I can be found watching the birds in the garden, or enjoying a cup of tea with a low-stakes television quiz show.

Anneo Allomonnan

Anneo Allomonnan as depicted in the Balos Book of Years, ca. 650

Anneo Allomonnan is the in-universe author of the Thalnom Roywa. He was born ca. 550 in southern Mawon, and after being orphaned at a young age, he was adopted by the priest Allomo Maydhonnan, who raised him in the monastery at Balos in Tronyo, Arlonn. Anneo was thereby the grandson of Maydho, an influential priest and politician who spent his youth in Frowlonn under the tutelage of Fraya the Foreknowledgeful before becoming a priest of the temple at Brownos in 507, and later serving as the High Priest of Balos from 517 until his retirement in 548.

Anneo left Balos in 573, then in his early twenties, and entered into the monastery at Fessos in Kwelmak, Arlonn. He remained there until 584, when he was transferred to Míshor, an imperial chartered temple in Meastalv, Eskǫma. At Míshor, Anneo developed a close personal friendship with Elme Rǫ́khlakh, who would later become Emperor Elme VII, and conducted an illicit affair with fellow Eymic priest Owvo Kelnoannan. Their affair was discovered in 588, after which Owvo was executed and Anneo exiled, himself only being spared death following an intervention by Elme VII, who had become the emperor the year prior.

Anneo returned to Eymalonn and entered into the monastery at Hufa in Bitta, Wulhwyg, where he remained until his death in 631. The Thalnom Roywa were completed while Anneo was a priest at Hufa, however the exact dates of their authorship are uncertain.
